About The Kissimmee Area
 Just 17 miles south of Orlando, Kissimmee is located in Osceola county in Central Florida along the shore of Lake Tohopekaliga, which is locally referred to as Lake Toho. Residents of Kissimmee are ideally position for day trips to the scenic beaches of the east coast, nearby Disney World, Sea World, Universal Studios and Epcot Center just to name a few. The city is a popular destimation for Florida tourists due to its large number of resort-style hotels that are typically less expensive than the resorts near Disney World and other popular nearby tourist attractions.
Kissimmee was originally established in the mid-19th century and was known as Allendale. In 1883, Kissimmee was officially incorporated as a city by Hamilton Disston who was largely responsible for the initial growth of the city. In 1971, Disney World opened its doors and tourism and development became the significant factors in growing the local economy. In doing so, the cattle industry, which had sustained the Kissimmee area for many years, had began to decrease in importance.
